Betty White’s Beloved California Home Has Been Demolished — A Piece of Hollywood History Gone Forever

Betty White’s longtime California home is no more.

After being sold last year, the beloved comedian’s former property has been demolished by its new owners.

White’s assistant, who now manages the late actress’s social media, shared the news on Sunday, revealing that the Brentwood residence Betty purchased in 1968 has been torn down.

“Hello all! I owe a post (or two) I know,” wrote Kiersten Mikelas in an Instagram caption. She explained that the delay in posting was due in part to the emotional difficulty of approaching the one-year anniversary of White’s passing on December 31, 2021, at the age of 99. “This is such a busy time of year, and coming up on the anniversary of Betty’s passing is hitting in ways I hadn’t anticipated.”

The yellow-shuttered, five-bedroom home—built in 1952 and purchased by White and her husband, Allen Ludden—has been reduced to rubble, with only the fireplaces remaining, though they, too, are set to be removed soon. “I promise a wonderful tribute to our most wonderful lady very soon!!!!” Mikelas added.

The property was listed in April with Marlene Okulick of Sotheby’s International Realty – Pacific Palisades Brokerage, just four months after White’s passing. It marked the first time in over 50 years that the home had been on the market. The house sold in June, fetching approximately $100,000 over its $10.67 million asking price.

Marketed as a teardown, the listing made it clear that the home was being sold for its land value, giving buyers the opportunity to build a new residence on the flat lot. Prospective buyers were not granted interior access to the 3,029-square-foot house during showings, but it was well-known that one of the rooms was filled with stuffed animals, a testament to White’s lifelong love of animals.

Now, with the home completely gone, a tangible piece of Hollywood history has vanished. Yet, Betty White’s legacy remains, continuing to inspire fans around the world.
