Watch Josh Klinghoffer pay tribute to Betty White with ‘Golden Girls’ theme song cover

Josh Klinghoffer paid tribute to Betty White by performing a cover of The Golden Girls theme song, as seen in the video below.

The beloved actress and entertainment icon passed away on New Year’s Eve (December 31) at the age of 99 at her home in Brentwood, California. Her death is believed to have been from natural causes.

White, who was set to celebrate her 100th birthday on January 17, is widely remembered for her role as Rose Nylund on the popular US sitcom The Golden Girls, which aired for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992.

Klinghoffer, a touring guitarist for Pearl Jam and former member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, shared his tribute on Instagram the same evening, performing the show’s theme song and reflecting on the passing year.

“Outside my window is the last dusk of 2021,” he wrote in his post. “I’m not entirely sure how to sum up this year. As always, it feels like it just began, yet so much has happened.”

He continued: “There has been a lot of loss lately, a lot of endings. Loss is constant everywhere, but the past few weeks have brought the passing of several important figures in my life. I don’t often feel I have wisdom to offer, but the son of the creator of the show this theme song belongs to said something brilliant. He remarked (roughly): ‘We are all experts at being exactly who we were the day before.’”
